How many spam emails do you get in a day’s time. 5, 10, 100?

And how many times do you see something like this:

This email was sent because you signed up and/or registered with us or one of our affiliates. To stop receiving email from (insert company name), click here or mail us as (insert snail-mail address here). (Company name) is a mailing service and does not guarantee or support any of the offers advertised in this email. This email may be a part of a continuing campaign.

Exactly “when” did I sign-up and or register? Most of the places that I’ve registered/signed up over the last few years, when and if I have, have been with sites/forum/programs/apps that promised me my email would never be shared. Never. Ever. Promise.

So who exactly is zooming whom? Is the emailer lying? Were those angelic sites lying?

And forget about “clicking here”, as it is my belief that that in itself is a means by which ‘mailers’ can verify they’ve got a live addy.

Wouldn’t it be nice if there were no spam email? Wake-up, you’re dreaming, but here’s a thought.

Why not force them to include the date that registration or sign-up occurred, and whilst we’re at it, include the place from which we did the registration/sign-up.

After all, if they have our data, they have our data.

Yeah, but…

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.

My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly.

So I asked, ‘Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!’

This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, ‘The Law of the Garbage Truck.’ He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment.

As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll dump it on you.

Don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.

Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.

I love forwarding insights like this.

One of the better lines from Thomas’ post made me laugh out loud, and hence do the flikr search:

“I know, Tom, and verily I say unto thee, that thou shalt have the wish in abundance. Let there be a whole forest of hair, sprinting nimbly up and over your shoulders, down your back and deep into the crack of your hiney….”

“Um…wait….God…wait, um…”

So, pass this along to all those you know that have had to “valiantly (try) to fill in those blanks”

Remember, a boat can float, but will only go in circles without a rudder.

Greetings and Happy First Days of March!

I’m happy to bring to two items of news today, or rather– one reminder and one special piece of new information– regarding a new offering and service for MyBurg.com

First off, do NOT forget to Vote this Tuesday.

There are numerous items on the ballot that need everyone’s attention. One of them is of course Issue 33. You’ll find a rather PRO article here, as it is my belief this issue is both necessary and paramount in maintaining our city’s growth, and future. There’s even an area at the end of the article where you may comment.

Secondly, some exciting news.

MyBurg.com has recently acquired a relationship with job-a-matic, and SimplyHired.

Simply said, both job-seekers and employers can now harness the reach of MyBurg.com

Your jobs will also be posted across the entire Simply Hired jobs network, which includes sites like MySpace Jobs, LinkedIn, MyWay and, of course, Simply Hired.

Myburg.com attracts over 800 unique visitors per month. With this reach, if you have opportunities for new hires, or know someone that would benefit from an effective method of job posting, please visit this link and click on the Post a Job banner.

And as an MMA member, you can take advantage of a nearly 60% discount during the month of March. If you’re looking for employees now, or in the near future, or have seasonal positions needing to be filled, now is the time to support MyBurg.com and get the word out about what a great place yours is to work. Send me an email if you’d like information on the 10-posting discount

Thanks for your time, and remember, VOTE on Tuesday!

Sincerely,

Michael Langham
Publisher, MyBurg.com
